Short: harddisk protection password program Author: Wilfred Kunst / wm.kunst@upcmail.nl Uploader: wm kunst upcmail nl Type: util/boot Version: 4.0c Replaces: util/boot/SysLock4.0.lha Requires: 68k Amiga with HardDisk (020+ recommended) Architecture: m68k-amigaos = 1.3 <-> 3.9 Distribution: Aminet * Changes since v4.0b: ---------------------- + Fixed a writing routine to the startup-sequence. SysLock didn't remove the "Sys:System/SysLock" command after using the "REMOVE SYSLOCK" option when running the program from the startup-sequence. If you want to remove SysLock, just run SysLock from Workbench and use the "REMOVE SYSLOCK" option. + Some machines with ROM v1.3 and v2.0 didn't load the Workbench after exiting the program. Fixed now, but with ROM v2.0 Amiga's, the CLI in the Boot-Menu is still accessable. KickROM v1.3 is secured, because of the lack of a boot-menu. + Updated SysLock Installer. + ! IMPORTANT ! --> FIRST REMOVE THE OLD SYSLOCK BY USING THE "REMOVE SYSLOCK" OPTION ! THEN USE THE NEW INSTALLER TO INSTALL THE NEW SYSLOCK v4.0C ! * Changes since v4.0: --------------------- + Optimized for use with OS 1.3. + Fixed OS3.5/3.9 routines (v4.0 didn't recognized OS3.5/3.9 in system info, it does now, but after the SetPatch command or reboot). + Added little countdown sound sample. * What is it? ------------- It's a password program to protect your harddisk from any unauthorized persons. It has a very nice graphical interface and sound samples. It offers the best protection and it's also the nicest looking password program around! (Just check out other simular programs and you will see what i mean). Why the best? Well, I did a routine which shuts of the CLI window in the "Early Startup Menu". This is the only "locker" program that is capable of doing that! If you want to use the Boot Menu's CLI window again and want to get rid of SysLock from your HD, then just use the "REMOVE SYSLOCK" option in the main program and then everything on your system is back to their original state. * How to install SysLock? ------------------------- For best protection and function, jou must run the "Install-SysLock" installer by doubleclickin on it's icon. It copies the data files to their places on the harddisk. The startup-sequence is being altered and the SysLock command is put on the first line. It's important to leave the SysLock command there. Keep in mind that If you're running OS3.5 or OS 3.9, SysLock is running twice because of the OS3.5-3.9 reboot routine. If you find that annoying then you can manually put the "Sys:System/SysLock" command line to a place after the setpatch command (when OS 3.5/3.9 software ROM is loaded). But, put the "Sys:System/SysLock" command line back on the first line in de s-s for best result if uninstallling the program by the "REMOVE SYSLOCK" option. Otherwise you have to remove the command line manually. You can also improve your system security by changing the boot-priority of your boot-partition in HDToolBox/HDInstTools to 127. This will prevent someone to acces your harddisk using a bootable floppy. But, be carefull! Don't forget your password after that! * How does it work? ------------------- When you use the program for the first time, you are asked to enter a password. Just type "password" (default password). With the cursor up+down or mouse you can choose an option, then press enter. A smart thing to do is to change the current (default) password! I build-in a screen-blanker too. It's activated after 60 seconds if no key strokes are detected. After exiting the blanker screen (ESC or ENTER key), you will be prompted again for the password for security reasons. * Options: ---------- EXIT :> Quits the program and starts the WorkBench. CHANGE PASSWORD :> Change your password. LOGFILE :> Shows input from unauthorized login attempts. CHANGE COLOR :> Change the skin color of the interface. FASTROM :> Enable FastROM on 68030 systems. Very handy on bootup. ! REMOVE SYSLOCK ! :> Removes SysLock completely from your system. * Bugs? ------- No, but let me know if you encounter any. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- sYsLoCk V4.0=FREEWARE wm.kunst@upcmail.nl --------------------------------------------------------------------------
