Short: Demo of Digital Almanac III Author: achimste@gmx.de (Achim Stegemann) Uploader: achimste gmx de (Achim Stegemann) Type: misc/sci Architecture: m68k-amigaos; ppc-warpup Demo bugfix This is a small demonstration of Digital Almanac III, the best planetarium software available for the Amiga. Please note: Currently only a German documentation is available. An English catalog is supplied, but no English documentation. *** Requirements *** o Any Amiga with at least OS 3.0, MC68020, AGA and some MB free FastRAM. o MUI 3.8 *** Recommended *** To get a taste of the real speed, you need a PPC with WarpOS (V15+) and a CGX-compatible graphic card. You need the openurl.library to read the manual from within the program. *** Restrictions of the demonstration *** o Just some thousand stars limited to +5.5 mag (for information). o Stars output limited to constellation of Orion. o No support for the Hubble GSC star catalog. o Deep-sky database only contains the Messier objects. o Only one comet in database. o Time range limited to year 2000. o No printer output. o All saving functions are disabled. No screenshots, no saving of animations. o Only one texture provided for the Moon to show new rendering feature on highcolor screens. o No Internet-updating for databases. o Simple looking listviews in the GUI. o No support for embedding pictures. o Ephemeris tables limited to 5 rows. o The 68k demo contains no FPU instructions. So some calculations will be very slow. Only the WarpOS demo makes use of the FPU. *** This is not restricted in the demonstration *** o All drawing modes are enabled (pixel, area, spectre). o Detailed worldmap showing night and day on Earth, including the shadow area during a solar eclipse. o Eclipse calculation enabled. o View sky from off-Earth locations. *** This is what you get in the full version *** o One million stars internal up to +16 mag. o Embedding of Hubble GSC star catalog with about 25 million stars. o Special functions to increase drawing speed of star databases. o More than 100,000 Deep-sky objects from many different catalogs. o More than 80,000 asteroids and minor planets. Database can directly be updated via Internet. o More than 1,000 comets. o Printing high-resolution star maps. o Saving screenshots in various graphic formats. o Creating animations in IFF-ANIM, QuickTime and MPEG format. o Embedded detailed HTML documentation with OpenURL. o Use of NListview by Gilles Masson for improved GUI handling. o Image collection of more than 600 astronomical objects. o Support for controlling your telescope with an external message port. o Additionally two more different program versions for the 68020/FPU and 68040/60 for maximum speed. *** Attention *** Currently only a German and an English catalog file is available. The HTML documentation contains the manual of the full version, but only in German ! If you like to read it in English, please visit my homepage. It includes the possibility of automatic translation via www.translator.com. *** Contact me *** If you are interested in the full version, please visit my homepage at: http://www.soft-ware.de/dalmanac There you can read all you need to know about prices (upgrade from DA II or new user). *** Note for hackers and crackers *** Hey folks... I know some of you tried to hack DA II to use the restricted functions when no keyfile is available. Forget it here... some thousand code lines concerning the restrictions have been simply removed. Also forget about using the data files of DA II... no chance.
