Short: Displays random wise words in Workbench! Author: Chris Spicer Uploader: Chris Spicer Type: misc/misc Architecture: m68k-amigaos THE WISE MAN V1.1 by CHRIS SPICER (c) MR DOG PRODUCTIONS What is it? ---------- The Wise Man brings to your Amiga the distilled knowledge of the ancients. When you double-click on its icon, it displays a wonderful message to entertain and enlighten you. Hopefully this will raise your karma, thus encouraging you to achieve a level of cosmic one-ness and helping usher in a new period of world peace and love. Do You Believe All That? ----------------------- No, not really. So, What Is It Really? --------------------- The Wise Man is a little program that sits happilly on your workbench and displays a random humerous message when you double-click its icon. No, really. Hang On A Sec! -------------- Whassup? Why The New Release? ------------------- Well, this version of TheWiseman is actually an updated version of the one that's already appeared on the Aminet. This one features 100 new messages. Oh yeah, and it's got a new Newicon. That's It? ---------- What do you want from me? Blood? Requirements ------------ The Wise Man should work on any Amiga. It's been tested with a 10 meg A1200 and a 1 meg A500, and works fine on both of those. What Do I Do With It? -------------------- Stick it anywhere you want. As long as the file Thingy.txt is in the same directory as the main executable there'll be no problem. However, if the file Thingy.txt is NOT in the same directory the Wise Man will attempt to give you a message and realise he has nothing much to say. So he'll close down. Which is a shame, really, innit? In the previous release of Wiseman, I advised that you could stick this in the WB_Startup drawer of your hard drive. Unfortunately, because of the fact that Thingy.txt has to be in the same drawer, your innocent Amiga will attempt to start that file up too, and you'll get an irritating message. If you can put up with that, then please feel free to continue to stick this in the WB_Startup drawer. So Program The Error Out, Already! ---------------------------------- I'd love to, but every time I try to re-compile my edited C code I have problems getting things to work correctly. I guess I should really learn to program, eh? Slacker. -------- Thankyou very much. Who Wasted Their Time Doing This, Then? -------------------------------------- Why, tis I, Chris Spicer, he of the Mr Dog Productions. Since the last release I have turned 21, but I still come from the rock-and-roll town of Nuneaton, and I still list my hobbies as crochet, planning world domination and sneaking into ladies changing rooms in the hope of seeing an inch of naked flesh. I've launched my own comic, A Big Slice Of Brain Cake, and I also contributeto other publications. Soon I should be launching a sister-title to Brain Cake called Semi-Automatic Goldfish, as soon as I finish some stuff to go in it. I do a little bit of Amiga stuff on the side, such as the adventure game Minnesota Smith's Aztec Adventure (available on the aminet), 21 Worms levels, a couple of level sets for Boris Ball, a questions disc for The Ultimate Quiz 2, and, of course, this. Combining my loves of writing and the Amiga, I also write for the excellent magazine Amiga Survivor. We've just turned A4 (from A5) and we're better than ever. By and large we're a games magazine, but we do cover some serious stuff too. People have been crying out for a games-only mag for ages, so come on, support us why don't you? For details write to Robert Ivesone, 41 Wellstone Garth, Swinnow, Leeds, West Yorks, LS13 4EJ or e-mail Robert@Survivor.Enterprise-plc.com. There's an Amiga Survivor website at: http://www.crystal-software.com/AmigaSurvivor/Survindex.com Other forthcoming stuff from Mr Dog Productions includes a second MinnesotaSmith text adventure game, the first Minnesota Smith graphic adventure game, and the first release from Mr Dog Music... As always, write for details. And What's Your Address? ----------------------- Why do you want to know? Just Curious ------------ Fair enough. If you really must, you can write to me at: Chris Spicer Mr Dog Productions 80 Castle Road Weddington Nuneaton Warwickshire CV10 OEW England Or: mr.dog@free4all.co.uk Where Did You Nick It From? -------------------------- The source code was borrowed from the NorthC examples disc. The original was by Steve Hawtin. However, I changed it a little bit to make it my own. Inspiration for the Wise Words was taken from the following sources: Murphy's Law Book 2 - More Reasons Why Things Go Wrong ed. Arthur Bloch More Murphy's Law - Wrong Reasons Why Things Go More ed. Arthur Bloch Star Light, Star Bright, First... Johnny Hart However, most of the text was taken from: My Own Head Chris Spicer What About Copyrights And That? ------------------------------ Okay then, if you insist. Ahem, here goes.
