Short: Operate Piccolo on HIGHER frequencies Author: andersen@or1.nat.tu-bs.de (Kai Andersen) Uploader: andersen or1 nat tu-bs de (Kai Andersen) Type: driver/video Version: 1.0 Architecture: m68k-amigaos Released: 08-Jan-95 At one day I find a strange bug in the EGS-software. While I adjust some new screenmodes, I find some situations where the EGS-Tweaker displays a resolution which should be totally IMPOSSIBLE with this card. So there was a possibility to display a mode higher than 86 MHz or 45MHz with 16 bit? I looked for the responsible driver for this restrictions and patched it by hand. And actually the card can display up to 90 MHz for <=8 bit and up to 60! MHz for 16 bit. The 24-bit-mode stays at 30 MHz. I already found this more than one year ago, and reported it to Helfrich at the WOC'93, but they ignored this. Now in the EGS 7.1 this restrictions still exists. Perhapst some cards don't like higher frequencies? Sorry for this long time. But I thought that the new software made this patch useless. So finally I writed this patch. I added two monitor-specs to test. Use it if you have a monitor with at least 30-57kHz and 45-120Hz for some modes. Copy it to EGS:monitors/specs. Usage: Simplay call this program in a shell. An installed EGS-system is required, of cause. Reboot, then look at the Tweaker. There you should see the higher limits! Now you can create new modes with these frequencies. Warning! : I am not resposible, if you kill your Piccolo card, your monitor or anything else! Use this patch at your OWN RISK! I can only report that these path worked with MY card since one year! Maybe your card don't like this patch! Please! : Report me, if this patch works on your card or not! EMAIL: andersen@or1.nat.tu-bs.de
