Short: WWW searchengine Author: Andrew Scherpbier Uploader: htdig spinnewiel xs4all nl Type: comm/www Version: 3.0.8b2a01 Architecture: m68k-amigaos ALPHA RELEASE 0.1 HT://DIG FOR AMIGA ==================================== Copyright (C) 1995, 1996, 1997 Andrew Scherpbier Ported by Bert Vortman for the Amiga. HTDig is a world-wide-web search system for an intranet or small internet. See the COPYING file for license information. See the htdoc/install.html file for compilation and installation instructions. This distribution includes: * htdig - A www information gathering and indexing system * htmerge - A htdig database merging program * htfuzzy - A fuzzy search database creation program * htsearch - A search engine. * htlib - A small general purpose C++ class library * htcommon - HTDig specific classes * htdoc - HTDig documentation in HTML HTDig has been tested extensively under Solaris 2.5 using g++ 2.7.2. If you use g++, make absolutely sure you have libg++ installed as well. To build, first read the htdoc/install.html document Questions/suggestions should be directed at htdig@sdsu.edu For the most up-to-date documentation, use http://htdig.sdsu.edu/ REQUIREMENTS ============ - Amitcp or miami - full GCC installation - Apache webserver for the amiga (http://www.dsdelft.nl/~apache) WHY THIS RELEASE? ================= This is a test release to see if there is an interest in such a search engine for the amiga. HT://DIG is originally developed for UNIX, but I've compiled it for the amiga with success. The basics of htdig are working, but it need a lot of work before it is stable enough, although I didn't find HD threatening problems. If you have any interest in this product, mail it to: htdig@spinnewiel.xs4all.nl If there are enough requests I will start a project HT://DIG in order to get it developed. If you want a binary version of HT://Dig, mail your request also to the above address. These sources are uploaded with the consent of Andrew Scherpbier. PROGRAMMERS WANTED ================== If you are a experienced C++ programmer with some spare time to spent and wanting to take part in developing HT://DIG for the Amiga, get in touch with me. I am not a real C++ programmer, but I would like to see this program working. Running and understanding the apache webserver is necessary for development. Things I did and didn't do: =========================== This archive is the base archive for HTDIG, a WWW search engine like altavista, etc. The source is not changed in anyway and works on my Amiga system. There was a problem in the original TAR archive with a duplicate display.cc source (a Display.cc and a display.cc). Thanks to Kamil Iskra the problem was found. There exist another problem in the htsearch program, it gives sometimes a 'broken pipe' message, although it seems to work fine. I don't know what causes this, Apache or HT://Dig? If anyone finds a solution, please mail it to me. I did not remove the fork()'s in the htnotify program yet, so that won't work properly at this moment. If someone wants to work on this, please do. HT://DIG works for the main part, but there must be some errors here and there. But I decided to release the HT://DIG sources to see if there is a need for such a program. I am not a real C++ programmer so, any help with this is greatly appreciated. Bert Vortman. e-mail: htdig@spinnewiel.xs4all.nl
